Slingshot Names David Coats Vice President/Executive Creative Director

Dallas based advertising agency Slingshot has named David Coats as their new Vice President/Executive Creative Director. This marks Coats’ second stint as ECD at Slingshot, a position he held until 2010, when he led integrated creative efforts for client including Jack Daniels, Greyhound, ConocoPhillips, and Joe’s Crab Shack.

“It’s a thrill to welcome David back home to Slingshot,” agency President and COO David Young said in a statement. “Aside from being an accomplished creative leader, he is also true agency leader that knows how to collaborate with clients to grow their businesses. And he fits our agency culture like a glove.”

“There’s no agency in Texas like Slingshot, and it’s an honor to be back,” Coats added. “Pound for pound, this is as talented a bunch of people as you’ll find in the state, across all disciplines. I can’t wait to dig in with the Slingshot team and help make great things happen.”

David returns to Slingshot for his second stint as ECD, following a two and a half year run as ECD at Krause Advertising, leading creative efforts for Lucchese Bootmaker, Helzberg Diamonds, and UT Southwestern. Prior to that, he was a partner in Burlington, Vermont based KSV, where he was named one of the Top Creative Influencers in New England by the Boston Ad Club. David began his career as a writer at The Richards Group in Dallas.

At Slingshot we are driven, perhaps neurotically obsessed, by our belief that consumers have forever changed. Today people have more channels, more devices, more bright, shiny objects competing for their attention than ever before. How they spend their time has become fractured into bite size chunks, with advertising constantly surrounding whether they pay attention to it or not. This is why we refuse to follow the same old marketing approach. It's not about simply interrupting people. It's about engaging them in the places they're actually paying attention and delivering a compelling message that creates an impact.
